Do you have a hard time finding a workout that sticks? I’ve tried loads of exercise classes and routines, but I could never really get on a program that I enjoyed and felt motivated to do consistently. I exercised, but I dreaded it.
That was until I started Pure Barre. I found a good deal for classes while searching the internet and decided to give it a go. I now attend Pure Barre at least six times a week.
Why It Works for Me
There are so many reasons Pure Barre has enhanced my life physically and mentally. The studio is a place for me to just forget everything and focus on being better than I was the day before. The studio is calming and allows me to just focus on me.
I can not say enough about the people, instructors and students, at Pure Barre! You will never feel judged or lesser than. The positive environment breeds success. You will see women and men of every shape and size with every ability in class.
The instructor makes a point to learn the names of everyone in class. They will compliment you on your form, tell you you look gorgeous and strong, and they will encourage you through your workout. I think many people are motivated by affirmation. If I don’t feel like what I’m doing is correct or effective, I start to falter. When I’m affirmed, encouraged and appreciated it only pushes me to strive to hold that plank or chair sit even longer!
Before You Go
Booking a Pure Barre class is easy peasy with the Pure Barre app. Make an account online, purchase a class/package and log in on the app. From there, you can select the class you’d like to sign up for, see the instructor’s biography, class time and type. Be sure you check with the studio to see if there are any new client or student discounts available.
Now you’re ready to TUCK!
Arrive 15-20 minutes before your first class. The instructor will want to show you around. Bring a water, towel and sticky socks to class! Socks are usually around $15 and can be purchased at the studio (major retailers like Target also sell sticky athletic socks). No sneakers, shoes or bare feet are allowed at the barre.
When you enter the studio, you’ll need to grab a double tube, ball, single tube and set of very light weights. I recommend starting on the lightest weights offered. You will have your arms in the air for nearly 15 minutes straight, so you may regret grabbing the heaviest weights after five minutes.
Pure Barre is a 55 minute total body workout. During your workout you will do a very brisk warm up, arms, legs, seat (BOOTAY) and abs. You stretch in between each segment and finish your work out with a full body stretch. Exercises will be done on the floor and the barre. Some exercises you may be more familiar with, but others will demand focus to master!
Stretching is really important in Pure Barre. Pure Barre is low impact, so your joints won’t ache or creek after or during the exercise. The stretching helps to minimize the soreness, but you will still feel a little uncomfortable a couple hours after class.
Tuck- think of it like a hip thrust with a scoop of your hips. My best advice when tucking during abs/seated is to imagine you have someone punching you in the stomach. That will guide your body into the right form.
LTB- this stands for “Lift. Tone. Burn.” It’s kind of the Pure Barre motto. Pure Barre focuses on small movements (you’ll hear your instructor say “one inch up, one inch down” a LOT).
Best Ten- your instructor will say “best ten” then countdown. That is the 10 lifts/pulses/movements you have left before you can rest or change the position.
Pure Barre Empower
Empower is a version of Pure Barre that takes the traditional Pure Barre technique and challenges you through high-intensity intervals and cross-training. Instead of the classic equipment, you will use a step, light weights and ankle weights. This 45 minute workout is built to compliment your Pure Barre Classic by getting your heart racing.
