Macarons are about as blog worthy as they come. With their pastel hues, light texture, and crisp, yet soft and delicate, shape, these airy little French cookies have really left an impression on the media and Instagrammers everywhere.
In the past year, we have visited numerous macaron shops testing the flavors, documenting the chic atmospheres, and finding the best of the very best in Dallas, Texas. Below are the favorites that came out on top!
This is one of my favorite hidden gems. Although I love feeling like it’s my own little sanctuary, I believe they deserve much higher traffic. Tucked inside an old post office, the ambiance, macarons, and hospitality is simply charming. Although we did have some difficulty finding this one, and the hours are rather obscure, I think that’s what makes this place so special. Everything about this café makes you want to parler en francais sur le café avec Blair and Serena. The décor, staff, and menu is welcoming yet tres chic. I recommend taking the DART and exiting at St. Paul Station or parking around Klyde Warren Park and making the walk a part of your trip. The walk isn’t terrible, and parking near the venue is spotty. Enter through the East entrance of the Post Office turned apartment complex and turn left. The shop is tucked away in the vintage lobby. Regardless of the treasure hunt, this location is my personal favorite on the list.
Chelles Macarons: Super for Soirees
With a stand at The Market at the Dallas Farmers Market, as well as a location at Craft Kitchen in Plano, Chelles is always ready to bring you fresh and delicious macarons. Although their stand at the DFM is decked out in adorably hued macarons, there is no real stand alone location for Chelles. We decided to order macarons from Chelles for a fancy fete during graduation and found them delightful to work with. Their prices were very fair, and my macarons were packaged carefully for pick up. Although this may not be the ideal shop for those looking to get the perfect picture, it’s a great business for all your bulk macaron needs.
JOY Macarons: Meilleur Macaron Muchies
A hometown favorite, JOY’s popularity is the Steel City Pops of 2016. With it’s chic design and central local in both the Oak Cliff and Greenville communities, this macaron shop is a central hub for much of Dallas. They offer unique flavors as well as their stellar Macaron Ice Cream Sandwiches. Two thick, fluffy, and cakey macarons sandwich their house made ice cream or sorbet. I recently tried the Blueberry Basil, but their flavors change without notice, so every trip is a new adventure. This business was definitely the winner when it came down to which shop had the best macarons. Make sure to come early in the morning to get the shop to yourself. It’s picture perfect.
I hope you’ve enjoyed a taste of what Dallas has to offer in the name of French Macarons. These are just a samples to all the choices we have if one of the greatest cities in the world. I hope this article is a good starter guide as you grow to exploring more of the cafés and shops that specialize in these tasty French treats.
